Broken Teeth

At times, the heavy load that teeth experience through grinding or biting down on something too hard can cause them to break. Dental decay can also undermine the bond and structure of existing fillings, causing them to fall out or break.

Breaks can range from a small chip to a wall of a tooth giving way. This can also be more likely to occur in teeth that already have large fillings and are unstable. When it does happen the underlying tooth structure (dentine) and sometimes even the nerve of the tooth can be exposed, causing bigger issues for a dentist to fix.

Every broken, cracked, chipped scenario is different. If it’s minor, we can patch it up with fillings. However, if it's severe, we will advise putting a crown on it. If decay has already settled in, a root canal may need to be performed or the tooth may need to be removed and a replacement made in its place.

Sensitivity to hot/cold, pain on chewing, or irritation to your tongue can result. You are also risking the formation of an abscess. The sooner these teeth are restored the better.
