Wisdom Teeth Extraction Bank Place Dental
Wisdom teeth may not always cause problems but while they’re coming out through the gum, they often do. If a wisdom tooth shows any potential for causing pain, discomfort, misalignment or damage, then we believe that an early extraction is wiser than waiting for it to cause issues.
As the name suggests, this procedure is the removal or extraction of wisdom teeth that could potentially cause problems. The wisdom tooth removal process is as follows:
● To ensure your comfort, we will provide an injection of local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and its surroundings.
● Next, we perform the extraction. In some cases, the tooth can be removed hole by rocking it back and forth in the tooth socket, but in other cases, it may need to be broken into 2 or 3 segments. We will always ensure you are numb and comfortable throughout the procedure
● We will stitch up the gum if needed and place gauze over the area, ensuring you keep it pressed in place to allow a blood clot to form.
After this, we will provide you with any aftercare instructions and let you know when and if you should get in touch with us in the case of a complication, though these are rare.
In most cases, the root canal treatment will occur over two or three appointments. They go as follows:
- The dentist will start by taking X-rays of your teeth to see the extent of the damage and the condition of the tooth and roots. While preparing for your treatment, we will likely use local anaesthetic to ensure you feel minimal discomfort.
- A dental dam will be placed around the tooth, keeping it dry and ensuring that any chemicals used during the treatment are not swallowed.
- After this, the dentist will open the tooth to remove any pulp debris and infection, and a dose of disinfectant will be left.
- Your dentist will reassess the root system, cleaning it and shaping the root canals by filing carefully into it to make sure they are smooth, even, and ready for filling. This part of the process may take multiple visits, and you will have a dose of disinfectant and temporary filling at the end of each.
- Once the infection is resolved and the root canals are an ideal shape we fill them with root filling and the temporary filling is eplaced with a permanent filling..
Further treatment to restore the tooth, such as adding a crown to cover and protect the natural tooth, or whitening the tooth, can be discussed as necessary.
